In this video we can plainly see the value of quickness over sensitivity. While it certainly appears that the Escort Redline has greater sensitivity (to constant-on radar), the Valentine 1 and the Beltronics STi-R also appear to be able to react more quickly to weak(er) brief forms of police radar that are typical with instant-on enforcement. Notice how the Valentine 1 provides some texture to the on and off again nature of the extended IO encounter. It is important to recognize that the quicker radar detectors provided nearly 24 seconds of additional preparation time (as compared to the "slower" ones) to the impending radar threat! Also notice, the gentle progression of the signal ramp of the Valentine 1 to clearly convey severity of approaching threat.

Last night we ran into this white Ford Windstar van (Alberta Plate CUE 819) shooting K band 24.1 Ghz northbound on Castledowns Road (most likely using the older Multanova 6F or Gatso 24 radar). The Bel STi detected it from about 700 meters (2300 feet) away as we approached it head on, and it gave us plenty of time to slow down before we drove by it from behind. Notice the low powered signal photo radar runs; the detector barely registered 1 or 2 bars. This is why a sensitive detector, such as the Beltronics STi or the Valentine One, is important for photo radar.

He let off the accelerator at 168 mph when the built-in radar detector went off. Too much sun reflection on highway, otherwise great video. At 1:10, he slows down for traffic---watch past the 2 minute mark when he really gets on it. Camera he used was the Drift HD 170. Small dial in center is the turbo boost guage. To the right is the speedo, to the left is the tach. Bottom right is the temp. Bottom left is oil pressure. You have to watch the turbo boost guage to see when he really gets on it (small center dial). When it is halfway, he is just cruising at 120-130 mph, when it goes full dial, then he is getting on the accelerator. And no he isn't trying to destroy the transaxle in the 1/4 mile, he is cruising to a top speed and being cautious!

Unlike GPS sat nav, radar detectors or competitor devices, there are no false alarms for cameras on the other side of the freeway. The Cheetah only alerts to hazards that are a threat in your direction of travel. Other devices use radius alerting to warn when youre approaching a camera, which means a lot of annoying false alarms for Off Axis cameras on side streets. Cheetahs use directional vectors to scout out the road ahead, cutting out those off axis alerts. The C50 is intelligent. I wondered why the radar detector just kept going off. I never looked in my rear view that carefully. Apparently the truck driver didn't look behind him either. That trooper must of followed him nearly 5 miles. I know he had to have been back there aa mile or so before he passed me. I know this happens every day. Wow what a pain it must be on same days for those guys. Yea, I know.... They can be a pain too when you're pulled over but as long as there's no attitude introduced into the job they do, then they are really just doing thier job.
